Clous Von Strauss
Born in Anklam, Germany, Clous was quickly recognized for his genius-level IQ. His parents encouraged him to pursue his academics, and he was taken into a special private school for gifted children at 10. A growing proficiency with mathematics and language began to steer Clous down a differnt path as he began obsessing over cross-system integration; finding unexpected links in various mystical, scientific, and archaeological techniques from wildly different cultures. His consuming desire to unearth cosmic truths quickly ostracized him from his former colleagues.
Not to be dissuaded from his personal crusade, Clous dropped out of school and took up work for various libraries, eventually using some old connections to become chief restitutionist at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. It was there that the first few pieces of the cosmic puzzle began to come together, after Clous began work restoring a particularly worn lexicon. Over the next year, Clous worked tirelessly both restoring the work and coming to understand it. In that year, Clous came to understand that it was no ordinary historical lexicon, but an elaborate and sophisticated cipher; with it, he was able to begin his true calling- the study of the Arcane.
When he had finished with the book, Clous realized that the instructions it contained were only the beginnings; the Lexicon’s purpose was to initiate, not instill mastery. Even so, with the few spells that he was able to grasp from the lore at his disposal, Clous realized that it would not be safe for him in Europe any longer. If the European powers could not be trusted with technology, what horrors would they work with magic? Perhaps, he surmised, the free Americas would be a safer place to learn his art. After some preparations, Clous set out for the west with nothing more than some petty savings, the wand he enchanted to focus his powers, and segments of the Lexicon transcribed into his own fledgling spellbook.
